Retention Category - "prevent user deletion of item in this category" Option

Hi guys,

is the someone who can clarify me if is it possible delete items archived with a retention category in which the option "prevent user deletion of item in this category" was checked.

I try to explain

Archiving was enabled with a retention category XXX (10 Years) with the option "prevent user deletion of item in this category" checked

Two Years later this retention category was modified in (For Ever) and the option "prevent user deletion of item in this category"  was cleared

The question is: archived items with the old retention category settings can be deleted simply clearing that option? or the option "prevent user deletion of item in this category" is a tag on the item?
